Peninsula Discovery Tour

Option 1: Otago Explorer: Penguins, Purakanui, Port Chalmers.

  • Purakanui Bay inlet, a special picturesque Bay with commanding views north over Blueskin Bay
  • Picnic Lunch at an original Kiwi Bach ( Holiday cottage) lunch  included.
  • Beach walk along Purakanui beach to  Mapoutahi Maori Pa, which occupies a small precipitous headland. Remains of its home terraces and defensive earthworks can still be seen.
  • Return to Dunedin via Port Chalmers

  • Moeraki Boulders beach walk
    60 million years old and nestled like eggs into the sand along the coastline. The sea is slowly eroding the boulders and uncovering new ones - some are up to 4 metres in circumference.
  • Lunch at Fleurs restaurant  Moeraki fishing village.
    The food is superb - a selection of local fish and other delicacies from the southern waters such as Titi (Muttonbird).
    Most of the vegetables come from small organic growers around the region, especially heritage vegetables and potatoes. Fish of the day catch, Blue Cod, Dory, Moki, Blue nose, Gurnard, Sole, Flounder, Groper, Crayfish...
  • Karitane beach
  • Return to Dunedin hotel drop off.
